From God to a Healthy Self-Esteem – No to Suicide
From God to a Healthy Self-Esteem – No to Suicide
Christ, God, offered the sacrifice of the crucifixion for each individual person—and He did so solely because He loves every single human being.
From the awareness that God loves you, has a good plan for your life, and wishes only good for you, can you—and can I, and every person—can accept and claim the right to life.
Mtthew 7, Verse 11
7:11 |
|
If you, then, being evil, are able to give good things to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who make requests to him? |

Simply put:
Because God loves you, you are allowed to be—you are allowed to exist!
Because God loves me, I am allowed to be—I am allowed to exist!
This realization and certainty of God's love, of the right to life, and of human dignity as a child of God—created in His image, according to His good plan and out of His love—is something every person may and should have and feel. Once realization awakens in a person, the soul can begin to heal. It is no coincidence that Psalm 27:10 says:
"Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will take me in."
Even if every person turns away from you, God—Christ—will take you in, embrace you. For no matter how many sheep He has, Christ goes after the one that is lost:
15:4 |
|
What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if one of them gets loose and goes away, will not let the ninety-nine be in the waste land by themselves, and go after the wandering one, till he sees where it is? |
15:5 |
|
And when he has got it again, he takes it in his arms with joy. |

10:11 |

I am the good keeper of sheep: the good keeper gives his life for the sheep. |

There are many different dangers that threaten the human soul and drive people to despair. Often, it is those closest to us who cause the most harm.
Illnesses—often mental illnesses—can also be a contributing factor. These often arise as a result of bad experiences, abuse, or insults. Financial hardship, worries, the loss of a loved one, sadness—all of these can lead to suicidal thoughts, despair, a sense of hopelessness and the feeling of having no way out.
But whoever allows it and reaches out can, in and with Christ, begin the fight for their life—and win.
7:7 |

Make a request, and it will be answered; what you are searching for you will get; give the sign, and the door will be open to you: |

So Christ also said in John 11:25:
“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me will live.”
How can this happen?
- Through the words of Christ in the Bible,
- Through His very body in Holy Communion,
- Through His work in the clergy,
- And through the people God places in our lives – whether in our circle of friends
- Or through services like the telephone pastoral care
America: https://988lifeline.org/ England: https://spuk.org.uk/national-suicide-prevention-helpline/ - Or directly in and through prayer
Through all of this – and even in ways we cannot imagine – God can work!
Whatever may come our way, I may take refuge under the shelter of His wings:
Psalm 61:4
61:4 |
|
I will make your tent my resting-place for ever: I will keep myself under the cover of your wings. (Selah.) |

How comforting it is to immerse oneself in the loving words of God:
Psalm 34:18
34:18 |
|
The Lord is near the broken-hearted; he is the saviour of those whose spirits are crushed down. |
